Current Students

Students are assigned an academic advisor from FYAE who will assist them during their first year of college. Your assigned FYAE Advisor will contact you via email early in the Fall semester and periodically thereafter - it is important to regularly check your Knight's email account. We recommend students meet with their academic advisor at least once each semester prior to the withdraw deadline.

FYAE operates primarily on an appointment advising basis. Students can schedule appointments in-person or on the phone. Advisors are available during peak times and on "Walk-in Wednesday" for walk-in advising. Prior to registration times, advisors will be on location in the residence halls for Advisors on Location. We also have an advisor permanently located in the Hercules Community for first-year students residing in that community. For questions about policies and procedures, deadlines, or other basic information students can interact with their advisor through email advising with their Knight's email account. Students who are placed on Academic Probation will be required to complete mandatory probation advising. Peer advisors are also available for walk-in peer advising if students are interested in a peer's perspective.

We encourage you to plan ahead and meet with your advisor through appointment advising early in the semester. Advisors are typically booked weeks in advance of registration (typically early November and late March). Wait times around these peak times for walk-in advising and Advisors on Location can range from 15 minutes to 1 hour. Responses to your email questions can also be delayed during these peak times.

Walk-In Advising

Students can attend a walk-in advising session where they can meet with the first available advisor for quick advising questions. As students are met with on a first-come, first-served basis, students may wait 15 minutes to 1 hour depending on advisor availability (sessions are limited to 15 minutes). Students can expect longer wait times during peak registration times (typically early November and late March).

We have regularly scheduled "Walk-in Wednesdays" throughout the semester for general advising questions. We also offer walk-in advising sessions during peak times such as the Swap/Drop/Add week, for assistance finalizing your course schedule; Withdraw week, for questions about withdrawal policy prior to the deadline; and during the peak registration week for first year students.

Students are required to complete and print out a copy of the Walk-in Intake Form in preparation for their walk-in advising session. We recommend for students attending walk-in advising for assistance with their course schedule to bring a tentative class schedule to the walk-in advising session.

Students will receive frequent communication via email from advisors concerning policies, procedures, and important deadlines. Thus, it is important that students also frequently check their Knight's email account. For students with quick and simple questions advisors are able to answer them by email. Students are recommended to meet with advisors face-to-face for more detailed questions.

Academic Probation Advising

A student is placed on academic probation when his/her UCF cumulative GPA drops below a 2.00. A student must receive at least a 2.00 term GPA the following semester after being placed on probation to remain at the University. If a student fails to do so, they will be disqualified from the University. Readmission into the University is never guaranteed.

When students advised by FYAE are placed on academic probation they will be notified by their Knight’s email account after final grades have been posted. Students placed on probation are required to complete a one hour mandatory appointment with their assigned advisor, in addition to other requirements. Students can expect the following during their probation appointment:

  • Review of Academic Alert Assessment
  • Review of academic policies and procedures
  • Review of General Education Program requirements
  • Review of degree requirements
